Extremely top heavy
here, short-waisted and long arms and legs. My tops are two sizes bigger than
the bottoms. I had a European designer help me figure out what to wear.
Buy tops to fit your
chest no matter how outrageously big they are, then take them in at the waist
and bottom. Alter everything. If it's too tight across the chest, it will look
like shit. Sometimes, I take out two inches on either side. I do this because
the sleeves are too short otherwise.
Buy for the biggest
part of your body and tailor the piece down from there.
Choose outfits that
are in the same color family to create "length". Neutrals are best
(black, blue, greys, purple, tan, brown). For example, gray striped pants with
a black shirt; blue slacks with a blue shell under a print top, brown slacks
with a beige jacket and a print blouse underneath, etc. Prints and bright
colors should be used as an accent.
Look for clothes with
structure to them. V-neck is your friend, avoid scoop necks or anything that
doesn't have a definitive shape. You don't want to break up the view or have a
top half and bottom half, you're trying to create a long line. Also, have a
longer shoe with a pointed toe or heel in the same colors will create this
illusion further.
Boots and jackets are
an excellent addition.
Avoid
"skinny" jeans, try to have a wider leg on your pants otherwise it
will only accentuate the apple shape. Have NOTHING which draws attention to
your chest. NO ruffles, stripes, etc. Even jewelry should be above your boobs
and not too heavy, earrings can be flamboyant but should not be too dangly.
Avoid flowy, soft fabric unless it has structure to it, like a blouse with
lightly padded shoulders, collar, button down front, waist, etc. Silky t-shirts
should only be worn under something else like a jacket.
